Okay! So I made a list of the things I learned & a nice recap of the process! So let’s start with : Things I’ve learned!!
1. Start the stencil where you will see it the most— ( I should have started at the doorway, not farthest covered corner). This is to make sure that you are starting off straight and level, bc it’s inevitable that you will be off a little in the end.
3. Using a dense roller was 100% much better than the foam brush or paint brushes that I first tried. I think that the grout lines wouldnt have bled much at all if I had used it from the beginning.
4. Waiting in between each stencil would have caused less bleeding also. It was def the way to go, but my Bathroom was way too big for that so it had some paint smudges and bleeding.
5. Taping the stencil in place was great and very helpful
So lets recap!
⁃ I used Rustoleum floor coating paint. I chose the ultra white color as tile and Ice grey as the faux grout color.
⁃ I degreased the floor very well.
⁃ I then painted the floor ice grey first as the base coat- to then paint the tiles on the floor.
⁃ Next the stencil! I really liked the stencil that I bought, but it was definitely tough. I didnt anticipate it to be as much work!! But the white was tough, as it needed two coats. the first coat was a little nerve wracking as it looked terrrible, but I just needed to think of it as primer.
⁃ The bathroom is very large. It would be a lot less labor intensive in a smaller room or bathroom! But I am still very happy I did it!!
⁃ I started in the far corner to make sure it worked well, but once I got the hang of it I should have switched back to the doorway to make sure the most seen part of the floor was level and perfect- instead of ending there and needing to match up everything (which was a challenge)
⁃ Luckily the paint dried pretty fast, so it was easy to do touch ups and conquer a lot of the floor in short time periods.
Overall I am very happy!! I like the color choices! I like that the tiles are white! But it would also look very good if I had done it the opposite way and done grey times with white grout lines. It may have been a lot less work.
And if it hasn’t looked good at all it would have been totally acceptable to paint it all back grey as that looked great too.
Happy I chose to do it! Happy I followed through even when it looked terrible!!
& extra thanks for staying along to see the final product 😅🤪😂
Do you have tile in your house you would paint??
